Adobe Strobe Media Framework

Optimize the delivery of high-quality, monetized video

Adobe will offer a standard open framework, code-named Strobe, that accelerates and simplifies media player creation for the Adobe® Flash® Platform. Its extensible plug-in architecture provides production-ready code that meets recurring development challenges, while helping publishers monetize their video content through seamless integration with partner services. With support for the latest player features such as Dynamic Streaming and DVR functionality, Strobe enables developers and ecosystem partners to fully utilize the powerful video features of the Flash Platform.

Features:

Easier entry to web video

As innovation in video monetization workflows evolves, playback application development and monetization are becoming more complex. With Strobe, Adobe is taking a leadership position to help drive open standards and simplify the development process for media players. Strobe is designed for content publishers, development tool users, and Adobe® Flash® Platform ecosystem partners — anyone who is developing video on their website today.

Componentized architecture

Strobe’s flexible and modular framework supports basic and robust player functionality, enabling features such as playlists, content publishing system integration, advertising insertion, content delivery, syndication, and social network integration. You can take only what you need, minimizing your application’s footprint.

Open plug-in architecture

Strobe simplifies the development of media players by allowing developers to integrate plug-ins from partners in the Flash Platform ecosystem. Anyone can develop plug-ins that integrate with Strobe media players and enable custom features and new functionality.

Open framework

The Strobe framework accelerates momentum for the Flash Platform ecosystem, including the Open Screen Project, an initiative announced in May 2008 and backed by more than 20 industry leaders. The Open Screen Project is dedicated to driving rich Internet experiences across televisions, personal computers, mobile devices, and consumer electronics. By providing open standards for media player development, Adobe is advancing the Open Screen Project and the ability of its participants to further their online media efforts.

Promotion of standards

Adobe is focused on pooling best practices and delivering a free and open framework to drive standards for the benefit of the whole ecosystem.

Adobe Flash Media Server platform

Combine the power of flexible, production-ready media player code efficiently with other products in the Adobe Flash Media Server family, including Adobe Flash Media Streaming Server, Flash Media Interactive Server, Flash Media Live Encoder, and Flash Media Rights Management Server software, to deploy complete, rich, interactive playback experiences and social media networks. Leverage development tools, including Adobe Flash CS4 Professional, Flex® Builder™, Flash Catalyst™, Dreamweaver®, and Contribute® software. Deliver content to the world’s most pervasive digital media platform, Adobe Flash Player software, as well as to desktop applications built on the Adobe AIR® runtime.

Integration with existing development workflows

Integrate with your existing developer workflows by using Strobe’s drag-and-drop component architecture in Adobe tools and visual customization via properties panels, or by deploying the externally configurable SWF file to eliminate the need to use Adobe® Flash® authoring tools at all.

Streamlined standard functionality

Eliminate duplicate efforts by leveraging Strobe’s efficient handling of standard playback functions such as play/pause/stop, rewind, fast forward, and video navigation.
