Samsung launches Windows Mobile and Java developer programsThe launch of Samsung Mobile Innovator on Java and Windows Mobile operating systems will open up new opportunities for mobile developers deploying their products to Samsung devices.

Samsung Mobile Innovator provides a significant opportunity for mobile developers to create applications and services on Samsung devices for a global audience.

Samsung will extend developer support for additional mobile platforms through the creation of a dedicated Chinese developer forum. The Chinese forum will open in March of this year. In addition to the Windows Mobile and Java platforms this will extend the Samsung Mobile Innovator to become a truly global tool to drive innovation on Samsung devices.
Samsung has also announced that it will be helping developers to distribute their applications with the launch of a Samsung Applications Store. With the beta launch in January 2009, the Samsung Mobile Applications Store will provide service for mobile developers. Symbian S60 and Windows Mobile developers will be first to take advantage of the store.
For all developers, membership of these forums is free, whether they target a single or multiple platforms. Services that Samsung Mobile Innovator provides to its members include:
  • Lab.dev – a virtual device lab to provide access to current Samsung mobile devices for remote application development and testing and verify application functionality. Users also have the benefit of reducing development costs, while increasing productivity.
  • Market.dev – business development support to give as much help as possible to accelerate all developer ideas and help registered members sell their applications and services on Samsung devices.
  • Ask.dev – exclusive and confidential technical support to help reduce the time it takes to develop new ideas and bring current applications to Samsung devices. This dedicated online support is unlimited and free to core members.
‘The launch of Windows Mobile and Java support on Samsung Mobile Innovator underlines our commitment to working with, and providing new opportunities for mobile application developers.’ said Phil Northam, Global Marketing Manager, Samsung Mobile Innovator. ‘With a multitude of open platforms available today, it has never been more important to provide cross-platform support for developers if they are to take advantage of the different technologies that differentiate mobile devices, and to allow them to deploy them to as many handsets as possible.’

‘Samsung Mobile Innovator provides not only technical support for application developers, but commercial opportunities as well,’ said Sanj Matharu, Global Relations Manager, Samsung Mobile Innovator. ‘We’re looking forward to working with a broader global developer community this year, to help them to make the most of the new sales opportunities that we’re creating through the new developments on Samsung Mobile Innovator.’
